Hospice Care offers individuals and their families comfort in the home or a care facility during the end-of-life journey. Hospice care providers supplement the services offered by primary care professionals, once curative treatments have ceased, by effectively managing pain and other symptoms for patients in order to increase their comfort and quality of life. Spiritual care is administered to patients and their family members by chaplains and bereavement counselors, and families may continue to receive this support up to a year after their loved one passes. Since patients with a terminal diagnosis of six months or less are eligible for hospice, patients and families are encourage to contact hospice as early as possible in order to create a plan for personal goal achievement, physical and emotional support, and the maximum level of comfort, to ensure the very best quality of life possible.
