Implementing the Montessori Method into Dementia Care
Hillcrest Health Services continues to earn national recognition for innovative work in Montessori-focused dementia care. Hillcrest earned the 2019 Silver Award for Innovator of the Year in the McKnight’s Magazine Excellence in Technology Awards. In addition to receiving this 2019 Silver Award in the Innovator of the Year category, Hillcrest also received a 2018 Gold Award in the Quality category last year. Hillcrest is one of the first to integrate the Montessori philosophy into the daily lives of memory support residents.
Montessori-focused Dementia Care in the Media
Hillcrest has received attention from several news outlets for its innovative work in implementing the Montessori method into dementia care.
"Now What" TV Series
Hillcrest’s dementia expert Dr. Anna Fisher is a co-producer of the NET TV series, “Now What?” In “Approaches in Elder & Dementia Care,” experts discuss traditional treatments of dementia, along with more alternative options, including the Montessori method.
Partnership with The Roberts Academy
Nine years ago, Hillcrest entered into a partnership with The Roberts Academy, the only secondary Montessori school (grades 7-12) in the state. Today, The Roberts Academy is located on Hillcrest’s Silver Ridge campus in Gretna and is believed to be the nation’s first Montessori secondary school located in a health care setting.
