Hillcrest Breaks Ground on Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna

Earlier in the spring, Hillcrest Health Services broke ground on what will be the first full Continuing Care Retirement Community in Gretna.

On Thursday, May 12, Hillcrest Health Services broke ground on what will be the first full Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Gretna.

Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna, located on Hwy 6, just north of Hwy 370, will offer 55+ active adult housing, independent retirement living, assisted living and memory care. Further, we will round out services with long-term care and post-acute rehabilitation for those recovering from a hospital stay, injury or illness.

Gretna city officials are excited to see this beautiful community bring 200+ job opportunities to the City of Gretna.

“Our citizens have been so used to driving to Omaha for work,” said Mayor Mike Evans. “Finally, we’re starting to get jobs that match our residents and what they want to do. The more jobs we get here, the more of a community we become.”

In addition to bringing those opportunities to the citizens of Gretna, Hillcrest will meet area seniors at every step of the aging journey.

This brand new community will include 86 independent living, 26 assisted living and 15 memory care apartments, as well as 28 independent living garden homes and up to 40 skilled nursing accommodations. While enjoying worry-free living with all maintenance, landscaping and snow removal covered, residents will also have access to community amenities.

These amenities include fine and casual dining, a large performing arts hall, a cinema, a wellness and fitness center, outdoor courtyards with pickleball courts, libraries, fine arts hobby spaces, the St. Andrews room with a golf simulator and a third-floor pub with spectacular views of downtown Omaha’s tallest buildings. Hillcrest Highlands of Gretna will have a Scottish theme, and many of the rooms will have names that tie back to the historical names of Scotland’s past. It’s a nod to the history of Gretna and references the Gretna Green area of Scotland.

The main Hillcrest Highlands building is set to open in the spring of 2024 with the possibility of the garden homes opening sooner.

“We look forward to gathering together to cut the ribbon and enjoy everything Hillcrest Highlands has to offer in 24 months,” said Jim Janicki, Vice President of Marketing for Hillcrest Health Services. “We are really looking forward to being a part of the Gretna community even further than we already are.”
