Bellevue, NE – Hillcrest Mable Rose is pleased to announce one of their residents, Tom Fay, received the 2013 Resident of the Year Award from the Nebraska Assisted Living Association (NALA). Fay, 73, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the well-being of his fellow residents.
“Tom has been highly involved in our community since the day he became a part of our family,” said Hillcrest Mable Rose’s Administrator, Helen Crunk. “Tom eases the loneliness of many of our residents and provides purpose for them. He is a compassionate and kindhearted man who enriches the lives of everyone he meets. Tom’s commitment to those he serves is admirable, and we are so honored to have him as a resident.”
Lisa Summers, Hillcrest’s Director of Memory Support, nominated Fay for the honor. “I believe with all my heart that he is the perfect volunteer,” she said. “Tom engages residents and draws out those who might otherwise lack in social activity; therefore, improving quality of life.”
Fay is an accomplished musician and shares his talents with his fellow residents. He is an Ambassador at the assisted living facility and is a vital part of the welcoming program. He also plays an active role in Hillcrest’s Resident Council meetings and is a trained hospice volunteer, providing comfort and care to hospice patients and their families.
Fay has resided in the Omaha/Bellevue area for almost eleven years. His wife, Joan, resides in downtown Omaha.
