Join us to learn about making the decisions that affect end-of-life care, including:
1. Understanding the differences between palliative care and hospice care.
2. Determining which type of care is most appropriate to the situation.
3. Knowing the resources available to appropriately guide the patient and/or family in the decision-making process.
Rebecca Reilly, MD is attended medical school at the University of Nebraska, and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution. She did a fellowship in geriatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and returned to Omaha in 1994. Dr. Reilly is currently the medical director of the Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, and also of Hillcrest’s Hospice service.
Rebecca Wester, MD, CMD is the Medical Director for Hillcrest Palliative Services. Dr. Wester is board certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center since 2007. As a Geriatrics-Palliative specialist, she delivers interdisciplinary care to patients directly where they live, whether in their home or in long-term care facilities. In caring for individuals with advanced illness, she strives to effectively harmonize their care to align with their values, goals and preferences.
Peggy Jarrell, LCSW, LMHP, OSW-C received her Masters of Social Work from UNO and has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare field with hospital social work, discharge planning, home health care and hospice social work, oncology social work and support group facilitation for patients/caregivers. Currently, Peggy is an Oncology Social Worker for Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center. She is a member of the Association of Oncology Social Work and Greater Omaha Oncology Social Work Association.
Judi Crick is a caregiver who has seen loved ones through the continuum of end-of-life care and serves as co-facilitator of a local caregiver support group.
